Kurt Hodgen

Sr. Vice President, Executive Recruitment

From about the age of six, when he was fascinated by the public works projects taking place on the street where he lived, Kurt Hodgen has had a passion for all things local government. This spark led him to a 32-year career in local government management for cities, counties and towns in Virginia. Kurt Hodgen later joined SGR as a Senior Vice President, which allowed him to continue his relationship with local governments across the country.

Kurt holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration and Political Science from James Madison University and is an ICMA Credentialed Manager. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia, the Utility Management Institute at Virginia Tech, and the Economic Development Institute at Virginia Tech. In 2018, he received the John Nofzinger Alumni Award for Public Service from his alma mater, an award even more significant to him as it was named for one of his late classmates at the University.

Kurt has always been very active in his professional associations and remains a member of the International City and County Management Association (ICMA) and the Virginia Local Government Management Association (VLGMA). While an active manager, he served as the Chairman for the Board of Directors for the Virginia Municipal League Insurance Program, member of the Executive Committee for VLGMA, the Harrisonburg Rockingham Regional Sewer Authority, the Middle River Regional Jail Board of Directors, Harrisonburg Rockingham Emergency Communication Center Administrative Board, and others. He was and continues to be a supporter of continuous education and staff development and maintains contact with many those he has worked for and with, taking great pride in seeing so many of his former employees move upward in their careers.
